What is My Address Belgium (MAB)?
It is an online form that allows foreign nationals to easily communicate their presence and address for a short stay in Belgium to the Belgian authorities.
Third-country nationals:
- They must report their presence within three working days of entering Belgium. Persons staying in a hotel, hospital or prison are exempt from this requirement.
- If they are registered in the EES (Entry-Exit System), they no longer need to go to the relevant municipality in person to submit a declaration of arrival. This notification can now also be made online using the electronic form “My Address in Belgium” (MAB).
- This electronic form is in no way proof of legal residence, identity or nationality. If the person concerned needs proof of legal short-term residence and/or wants to know the exact end date of their short-term stay in Belgium, they can request a declaration of arrival from the municipality where they are staying.
- The person concerned may not exceed the duration of their short stay.
EU nationals (and their family members):
- They must report their presence within 10 working days of entering Belgium. Persons staying in a hotel, hospital or prison are exempt from this requirement.
- It is no longer necessary for the person concerned to go to the relevant local authority in person to obtain an Annex 3ter. This notification can now also be made online using the electronic form “My Address in Belgium” (MAB).
- This electronic form is in no way proof of legal residence, identity or nationality. If the person concerned needs proof of legal residence, they can request a declaration of presence from the municipality.
- The person concerned may not exceed the duration of their short stay.
Why must the person concerned report their address of residence?
-
This reporting obligation stems from European and national residence regulations. The Belgian government must register the presence and address of all foreign nationals who arrive in Belgium and stay there for a short period.
- If the person concerned is not staying in a hotel, hospital or prison, they must communicate their short-stay address.
- Failure to comply with the reporting obligation may have consequences if a subsequent extension or residence application is submitted.
- After communicating the Belgian address, the person concerned will receive confirmation of this.
Who can use the “My Address in Belgium” (MAB) form?
Third-country nationals who are registered in the EES and EU nationals who are staying in Belgium for a short period.
⚠️ Foreign nationals staying in a hotel, hospital or prison are exempt from the reporting obligation.
Who cannot use the “My Address in Belgium” form?
Third-country nationals who have a residence permit or a D visa from another EU Member State.
They must always report their arrival and address in person to the local authority and are therefore unable to use the electronic form.
This is because these foreign nationals are not registered in the EES (Entry-Exit System).
