Right of entry and residence

A citizen of the Union is an alien who holds the nationality of an European Union (EU) Member State, or of one of the .

Every EU citizen has the right to move and reside freely within the territory of EU Member States. However, this right, and more specifically the right to stay in Belgium for more than three months, is subject to conditions. 

The family members of an EU citizen also have the right to move and reside freely on the territory of EU Member States. However, this right is subject to conditions. 

In particular, the right of entry of family members of an EU citizen who are third-country nationals, is subject to the presentation of a valid passport which, when applicable, is accompanied by a valid entry visa.
