EU citizens who come to Belgium for a stay of less than three months must report their presence in Belgium within 10 working days of entering Belgium via “My Address in Belgium” (MAB). Persons staying in a hotel, hospital or prison are exempt from this requirement. Consult the “My Address in Belgium” page for all details.
It is no longer necessary for the person concerned to go to the relevant local authority in person to obtain an Annex 3ter. This notification can now also be made online using the electronic form “My Address in Belgium” (MAB).
An exemption is granted to EU citizens who:
- are staying in an accommodation that falls under the legislation on checking the details of all foreign guests;
- are admitted for treatment in a hospital or similar nursing facility during their stay in Belgium;
- have been arrested and detained in a prison or a social welfare establishment.
EU citizens who report their presence receive a document entitled "Declaration of presence" (annex 3ter to the Royal Decree of 08/10/1981). This document, issued free of charge, is not a residence permit.
Good to know:
The Immigration Office may impose an administrative fine of 200 euros on EU citizens who do not report their presence within the above-mentioned 10-day period.
