Sufficient means of subsistence

[Article 6 of the Schengen Borders Code & Article 14 of the Community Code on Visas]

Any person wishing to stay in Belgium for less than 90 days must have sufficient means of subsistence.

Proof of sufficient means of subsistence must be submitted along with the visa application (for nationalities subject to the visa requirement for a short stay) and/or when crossing the external borders of the Schengen area (for all nationalities).

A person who does not personally have sufficient means of support may rely on a guarantor.

As a rule, a visa application or entry into the Schengen area will be refused to any person who cannot prove that they have sufficient personal means of support or a valid formal obligation.
