Reference amounts
[Annex 18 to the Visa Code Handbook].
For a short stay in Belgium, a person must have at least 45 euros (€) per day if staying with friends or family and 95 euros (€) per day if staying in a hotel.
Useful to know: proof that a person has means of subsistence higher than the reference amount may be required if the purpose of the trip justifies it (luxury tourist stay, medical treatment if the cost estimated by the health care institution is higher than the reference amount etc.).
Proof of means of subsistence
Generally, this proof takes the form of a certificate of employment, salary slips and recent bank statements showing movements in the last 3 months at least. A credit card and corresponding bank statement, or traveller's cheques, may also be taken into consideration.
