Third-country nationals prevented from leaving Belgium for reasons of force majeure
A third-country national who is prevented from leaving Belgium for reasons of force majeure (quarantine, flight cancellation, border closure, etc.) may request authorization to extend his/her stay.
This request must be introduced to the municipal administration of the place of residence.
The applicant is required to include the following information and documents :
- a copy of his/her passport (number and period of validity, personal data, pages used);
- a travel health insurance valid for the duration of the requested extension with a minimum cover of 30,000 euros valid for the entire Schengen territory;
- a letter explaining why he/she cannot leave the Schengen area on the scheduled date;
- if possible, the documents confirming that it is impossible to leave the territory;
- the residential address in Belgium;
- a contact email address ;
- if possible, a plane ticket with the new return date.
The decision shall be communicated to the applicant by the municipal administration.
